Shanra’s Must-Have List

To clarify, this is not a list of books I think people should off and buy and read. This is a list of books that fall under Point the First of my TBR Acquisition Rules. Or, those books that I want to read and I want them NOW durn it. Gimmegimmegimme!

This is, obviously, a list that will change as I buy books or add new ones. Without rules, I might as well make it my wish list. So!

Below is a list of 20 items. (They may or may not be filled yet.)

- I may not add more than 20 books to this list.

- I may not remove bought books to make room for others.

- I may remove books I have not yet bought because I want other books more.

- I may remove books that have come to me because someone else bought them for me as a present.

-I must state reasons why I want the book so badly, even if those reasons only make sense to me. Even if that reasons is solely “It sounds so fascinating!” Sometimes you get drawn to a book for no reason other than the sound of it, after all.

- I must indicate whether I’ve bought a book. (So I know not to remove it. These’ll be struck-through, apparently.)

  1. Crank by Ellen Hopkins (Because the technical side of the way this is written sounds utterly fascinating.)
  2. Daylight by Elizabeth Knox (I’m trying to gather up all her works, but this is out of print… I want this one so badly because the premise sounds as fascinating as The Vintner’s Luck.)
  3. The Horse Boy by Rupert Isaacson (I blame Chris for this one. It. Sounds. So. Wonderful.)
  4. ??? by ??? (???)
  5. ??? by ??? (???)
  6. ??? by ??? (???)
  7. ??? by ??? (???)
  8. Miss Chopsticks by Xinran (Uhm, it’s a Chinese book, so fits ‘read more foreign books’…)
  9. Real World by Natsuo Kirino (*points up* Except that it’s Japanese.)
  10. Celtic Way of Life by Dublin Curriculum Development Unit (It looked interesting…)
  11. The Earthsea Quartet by Ursula k. LeGuin (I blame my dad and, fans of the books shall shudder, the mini-tv series.)
  12. The J.R.R. Tolkien Audio Collection by J.R.R. Tolkien & Christopher Tolkien (Carl’s fault for mentioning it. My fault for going to the EFF and spotting it.)
  13. The Angel’s Cut by Elizabeth Knox (It won’t be published until the autumn, I think, if I’m lucky. If I’m unlucky, it won’t be published then either. GIMME MORE OF XAS!!! Look it says “June” behind the publisher name. Does that mean I can has my book this summer?)
  14. Eyes Like Stars by Lisa Mantchev (Not released until July. But it’s all about Shakespeare and acting and fairies and can I just say how utterly made of brilliance that premise is?)
  15. Alabaster by Caitlín R. Kiernan (I. Really. Like. Dancy. And breaking my mind. Granted, I have yet to read Low Red Moon, but…)
  16. The Women of Nell Gwynne’s by Kage Baker (It. Sounds. Fascinating. I want it. Now. Preferably.)
  17. Pride of Baghdad by Brian K. Vaughan and Niko Henrichon (The premise. Lions. In Bagdad. Running loose. The meaning of freedom. The fact that it’s a graphic novel. I was intrigued.)
  18. Tree and Leaf by JRR Tolkien (I had reasons for this… Then WordPress reset my entry and those reasons got lost.)
  19. Heaven’s Net Is Wide by Lian Hearn (See above.)
  20. The Harsh Cry of the Heron by Lian Hearn (See above the above)

Wow. The preliminary list isn’t all that scary…
