Libri Touches

I’ve tried to answer all questions I could think of regarding the blog here in a FAQ set-up. If your question isn’t answered here, please ask!

• So what’s this blog about? Reviews. My opinion. And tidbits and snippets of information that I feel like sharing. Mostly about books or book-related things, but still… Sometimes my own work, sometimes something about my culture… I try to keep it about the books and the reviews, though. ^-^
• Why the name ‘Libri Touches’? I’m presuming you’ll have picked up on the (almost-)Latin there. It also refers to a ‘kolibri’ which is Dutch for ‘hummingbird’. It happens to be the one part of the word that I like listening to (I have Issues with plosives) and used to be one of my screennames. ‘Touches’ again has a layered meaning and I’m not going to give you all of them, but suffice to say I chose it because I associate words/sounds with textures, which one experiences through touch. You can take whatever meaning and combination you prefer. ^-^
• What do you review? Books, mostly. Although you’ll find the occasional movie and TV series as well. If I’m feeling truly brave, you might also get a game review. More specifically than that… I tend to read within the ‘fantasy’ genre. However, I’m trying to branch out of my little niche, so don’t be surprised by the occasional non-fantasy book!
• Why include textures? Synesthesia. I want to pay more attention to it and this seems a perfect way to do it. It’s chiefly for my benefit in trying to learn how to word things, but I thought it’d be nice to share as well. It’ll also be interesting to compare my reactions on rereads. I know I didn’t always have so many issues with reading Dutch for example.
• Do your reviews include spoilers? Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. Of course there’s the question of whether you consider something a spoiler or not. It’s all-round safer to assume that my thoughts will contain spoilers of some form, but Ill try to warn people if they’re truly too bad.
• What gives you the right to talk about (published) people so? The right of free speech, I think. Any ideas on how to rephrase this question are welcome. I know it’s a cliché to say, but I’ve been telling stories since I was old enough to come up with them. That doesn’t necessarily make me good at it, but it does mean I know what I like and have some experience with the technical side of writing. I’ll always try and be fair along with honest in a review, so I always try to explain why I feel something. (Sometimes this gets relayed to the comments, but I’m working on that.) If I’m biased, I’ll also mention that. Remember that my personal opinion is that, my opinion. It’s not a universal truth. I’m well aware of the fact that I’m extremely picky.
• Will you review [this person]’s work? Please check this page for my current status regarding ARCs or review books. Of course if you’re just a casual reader instead of an author or PR agent, that page doesn’t apply to you. You can check out my TBR pile here. Feel free to ask about or recommend titles on it!
• You keep rounding up my contests/You linked a post of mine that’s not a review, but I don’t know you. Why? Because I like sharing the links. And because I wanted to share yours. ^-^
• I have a question, but it’s not answered here! Ask away. I hope I’ve answered all relevant questions, but I often find it hard to judge what people are interested in knowing.
